AI changing what we mean by talent

There are constant conversations around how AI is changing the skills companies need now. But there is a bigger shift happening, that is,

“AI is changing what we mean by talent."

For years hiring was largely built around:

➡️Open a role, find appropriate experience with the skills and then make the hire.

As technology is changing, work is faster than job descriptions can keep up. Experience alone becomes a weaker proxy. Now there the movement is towards.

➡️ Identify the problem, check for capability and adaptability, look for evidence and make a hire.

And there’s an interesting signal coming out of India. Microsoft’s latest Work Trend Index found that 32% of Indian AI users are already “Frontier Professionals", people who are actively redesigning how work gets done around AI agents.

At the same time, 63% prioritise quality control of AI output and 59% rank critical thinking among their top skills.

This is leading to distinct human judgement becoming more valuable as we continue to increase the use of AI. This changes areas beyond recruitment, influencing your employer brand too.

If we have to remain relevant, organisations will have to start saying less of just “Here are the roles you can apply to."

to more of sharing how individuals can evolve being part of the organisation:

- Here are the problems you get to solve.

- Here are your areas you get to learn.

- Here is how you can build your capability and where it can take you…

Talent attraction is no more about just selling a job. Now more than ever, it is more about ‘possibilities of becoming” beyond just a current job.

I would love to hear how you have started adapting to the fast-changing requirements of your organisation.
